Driving ponies power into 2002

  • The European Pony Team Championships will take place at Sandringham next year

The European Pony Team Championships, scheduled to be run at Sandringham Horse Driving Trials this year and cancelled because of FMD, will be held at the venue next year.

The BEF took the unusual step of asking the FEI to re-run the European Championships next year because it will be the last pony team championships. In 2003 a World Pony Driving Championships for singles, pairs and teams is expected to take place.

Initially, there was some concern that, because the designated dates – 28-30 June – clash with Aachen, international judges might not be available. However, Austria’s Helmut Kolouch will be president of the jury, while Christian Iseli will remain as course-builder and Ge Koenig from the Netherlands will be the technical director.
