Distance learning with Writtle College

  • Writtle College has teamed up with Horses and Courses Ltd to offer equine distance learning courses

Writtle College will be running distance learning courses after signing a three-year contract with Horses and Courses Ltd.

The courses and associated individual modules will be available entirely by distance learning, through folders and study packs.

The college is also considering organising optional summer schools for students who want to gain extra practical work experience.

The four BTEC professional short courses available are:

    • Advanced Certificate in the Theory of Horse Care
    • Advanced Certificate in the Theory of Equitation
    • Advanced Diploma in Horse Care Theory
    • Advanced Diploma in the Theory of Competition Horse Care and Management

It is also possible to study each element of these courses as individual modules.

Pennie Wallace , senior equine lecturer said: “Judging by the response the equine team had at Equus 2002 and Badminton Horse Trials, these courses are going to be very popular with working adults, both within the equine industry, and those looking for a career change. These courses will also benefit riders who simply wish to develop a leisure interest.”

Distance learning offers people the opportunity to study at their leisure, but still receive a recognised qualification. Over the next six to 12 months Writtle College hope to develop some higher education equine courses by distance learning. They are also considering making the courses available online at a later stage.
