BHS first aid course attracts top stars


  • The British Horse Society’s new equine-specific first aid course has caught the eye of some of Britain’s top trainers and competitors.

    Richard Meade, Mark Phillips and Karen Dixon have all signed up to the one-day first aid course that has been developed with the needs of the horse industry in mind.

    The courses are going to be held throughout the UK by trainers who have expertise in horse-related injuries and accidents.

    The day will include generic first aid skills and requirements in the morning and horse-specific first aid in the afternoon.

    This new annual course will form an alternative to the existing Health and Safety Executive First Aid at Work certificate for instructors wishing to be included on the BHS Register of Instructors.

    The course will also be relevant to examiners, grooms, competitors, fence judges, volunteers and anyone else involved with horses.

    Costs of the course is as follows:

    £30 – BHS Registered Instructors
    £30 – Proprietors of BHS Approved Centres
    £37 – BHS Gold Members
    £40 – Riding Club Members
    £50 – Others
