AP McCoy has become the first jockey to ride 3,000 winners over jumps.
The thirteen-times champion National Hunt jockey celebrated the milestone at Plumpton today (9 February).
The historic win came aboard the Nicky Henderson-trained Restless D’Artaix in the 4.20pm 2m1f beginners’ chase.
Earlier in the day he won his 2,999th on Jim Best’s Hello Moscow.
He then narrowly missed out in the 3.45pm when favourite Miss Sarenne fell at the last while leading.
McCoy in fact won his 3,000th race in total earlier this month — but 9 were on the flat.
Since his first win at Thurles in March 1992 and he has won most of the major races in the UK and Ireland, including the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, Lexus Chase, the Arkle, the Tingle Creek and the Irish Grand National.
And the only major race yet to elude the champion is the Grand National, where he has been unlucky in the past
His record season was in 2001/2 when he won 289 races.
Now on 3,000 wins, McCoy’s closest rival is Richard Johnson, who is currently on 1,862.
