Rider stable after breaking neck in fall

  • Show jumper Nick Charles, nephew of Peter Charles, broke his neck in a recent fall.

Nick, 33, landed on his head after a horse stopped at a fence during a show at Quob Stables Equestrian Centre in Durley, Hampshire. He was taken to Southampton Hospital, where he was operated on by top spinal injuries surgeon Evan Davies.

“Every rider should check that their hat reaches the highest standards,” said Peter, who added that doctors expect Nick to make a full recovery.
