Top eventer out of action with head injury

  • Top Australian eventer Megan Jones is out of action due to a head injury following a fall at home.

Megan, who was on the silver medal-winning team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was galloping her three-star horse Kirby Park Invader on Wednesday (23 November) when she believes he slipped, and they both came down.

She managed to call her husband, and staff at the yard ran out to find her as soon as they spotted “Freckles” returning on his own.

Megan was taken to hospital, where she was checked and sent home. However the next day she was taken back for further tests after her condition deteriorated.

“I was still super-dizzy, tired, couldn’t walk without help, having hot flushes and wanting to be sick all the time. So the decision was made to take me back to hospital. I was finding more and more pain,” she posted on social media.

“Luckily, no fractures had shown up or any delayed brain bleeds. But they did find a couple of broken ribs on the second round of CT scans. No wonder it hurt to move,” she added.

She added she has serious concussion and is now recovering at home.

“Just thankful neither Freckles or I were seriously injured as it could have been way worse,” said Megan.

“Thankful I wear a KEP helmet at home and at competitions. Thankful I have a great team around me that gives me piece of mind that I can just rest.”
