Careers day: working in equestrian media

  • Horse & Hound is holding 2 careers events — “An introduction to working in equestrian media” (18 February) and “How to further your career in equestrian media” (22 April) — from 9am to 2pm at the Blue Fin Building, 110 Southwark Street, London.

February’s date is aimed at those who want to find out what a career in equestrian media entails and how to enhance their chances of securing their first job in the industry.

April’s event is designed for those with experience in equestrian media who want to move their career forward and ensure their skills match those required by an industry that is evolving rapidly.

Experts including Horse & Hound editor Lucy Higginson and website editor Carol Phillips will give invaluable insights on the day.

Lucy said: “70% of people who come to H&H for interview fail because of one fundamental problem — and most are oblivious that they have it! Find out what it is at our careers days.”

Carol will be sharing the dos — and don’ts — of using social media to establish your personal ‘brand’ and enhance your employability to potential bosses.

Alice McCullagh, who attended H&H’s careers event in October 2013, said: “Thank you for arranging and delivering such a great day. The presentations were all very informative and have given me a lot to think about. I feel as though I am much wiser, not only on equestrian journalism, but on the industry as a whole. I am now determined to focus my career in this direction. The H&H has a brilliant team and it was lovely to get the opportunity to meet everyone, too.”
