Event riders ‘recovering well’ from serious car accident

  • Event riders Aaron Millar and Dan Sibley are “recovering well” following a serious car accident last week in which 25-year-old groom Louiza Covey died.

The riders were involved in the crash on A37 near Dorchester at 10.16pm on Friday 8 May.

Aaron Millar, 28, had a haematoma on his bowel but is up and walking about in Dorchester hospital and is expected to be discharged shortly.

Dan Sibley, also 28, is “recovering well” from surgery in Bristol hospital friend and event rider Craig Barr told H&H today (Tuesday 19 May)

Dan, who runs a yard in Dorset, broke both his legs and sternum bone.

“Aaron’s still in a lot of pain but is hopefully going to be discharged from hospital soon,” added Craig.

“His horses are ticking over until we know when he will be back riding again.

Dan is going to be out of action with his injuries for some time. I can’t see him riding again this year.”

A fourth passenger, an unnamed 26-year-old woman, was also injured.

The driver of the other car involved — a 45-year-old man from Poole — died.

Tributes have poured in for Louiza, who was known as Lulu.

In a statement, Louiza’s family said: “Lulu was an exceptional young woman whose constant happiness was contagious to everyone she knew and loved. She was as beautiful inside as she was out and could change your day with a comment and smile.”

Officers from Dorset police’s traffic unit are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is being asked to get in touch with Sergeant Joe Pardey on 101 quoting incident number 8:422.
