  • A moving tribute to Grand National hero Many Clouds has been nominated for two awards at a prestigious New York film festival.

Many Clouds, The People’s Horse has been put forward for the international director and international documentary categories at the EQUUS Film Festival (17-18 November).

The short film was directed by Nathan Horrocks, the gelding’s former exercise rider, and created by Chepstow-based company Equine Productions.

“Many Clouds meant the world to me and thousands of others, I am so happy that an American audience will get to see how much he was loved but also the amazing athlete that he was,” said Nathan.

“This is my tribute to him to say thank you for what he has done for me, both personally and professionally, he literally changed my life.”

The film follows the journey of Many Clouds’ distinguished career, from his beginnings on the National Hunt circuit to his victory in the 2015 Grand National.

It also features footage from a body camera worn by jockey Leighton Aspell, who piloted Many Clouds to his Grand National and many other victories.

The film ends with trainer Oliver Sherwood paying tribute to the gelding on ITV Racing after the horse’s death at Cheltenham in January.
