First impressions

I really liked the bright cheery colours, but these socks were much thinner that some of the others in the group test and I wondered how hard-wearing they would be.

Overview of performance

They may be thinner than some of the others on test, but they haven’t yet got any holes and they have been used regularly. They are also very comfortable to wear both around the calf and on the foot.

Aztec Diamond bamboo training socks are stylish knee-high sport socks that are knitted in bamboo yarn with added coolmax for extra comfort. Feet are kept pleasantly dry thanks to the hollow structure of the fibres that makes it super-absorbent. The material effectively wicks moisture away from the skin and is very breathable.

These socks have the softest most luxurious feel and are the perfect weight to go under your boots. Extra stretchy, breathable and lightweight, the socks are finished with a ribbed band around the ankle to keep them in place and reinforced heel and toe panelling.

First impressions

These socks had very technical description and I hadn’t come across bamboo yarn before, so I was looking forward to testing them.

Overview of performance

The socks really delivered on the description and were very good to wear. They were comfortable, kept my feet dry and were stretchy but not too stretchy. I did find the style and colouring slightly simpler than some of the others tested.

Very long compared to the others tested — I have a long lower leg but they came up above the knee.

Overview of performance

These were not very comfortable under long boots because you need to fold down the tops, but there were very robust and the foot was comfortable. It was a shame that they were too long and, therefore, rucked up behind my knee.

I like the pinky-red colour on them and that they are robust, plus the foot is supportive. It is a shame that they were too long.

Verdict

I would recommend these to a long-legged person who struggles to find long enough socks then these would be good. Otherwise I would only recommend these for using on the yard and not under riding boots.

The best welly socks for horse riders are warm, well fitting and comfortable, while not causing the feet to overheat and sweat. They should be suitable to wear with both wellies and country boots. It is important that they do not slip down while walking or interfere with circulation. The best welly socks should be hard-wearing enough to be worn regularly without damage to the toes or heels, as well as being able to stand up to frequent machine washing.

Back on Track’s official description

Back on Track Socks are extremely comfortable to wear throughout the day or even while asleep. Because the fabric reflects more heat when you are moving around, it is wise, initially, to get accustomed to the product during your active daylight hours. Once you are comfortable with the effect or sensation generated by the ceramic fabric, you can choose to wear them throughout the night as well. If you have a sprained or damaged your ankle, we recommend the use of an ankle brace in preference to the socks, because it also provides some degree of support. If the heel is part of your problem, then the sock would be the preferred product because they cover the entire foot.

I thought they could have been longer, but they did stay in place and like how comfy the foot was.

These socks are good value and are the first ones I pick out off the draw for everyday use

Le Chameau’s official description

Le Chameau Isère Merino Wool Socks are full-length merino wool and acrylic hunting socks, which are machine washable.

Jo’s first impressions

They reminded me of my father’s army socks, but fortunately they were considerably softer.

Overview of performance

These sock were very warm and comfortable to wear, but they are thick so would only use them in very cold weather.

I liked how soft, thick and warm they were, which makes them perfect for a cold day at a point-to-point. They couple well with wellies, but would be too warm to wear on milder days.

Verdict

I would recommend these, although at £45 a pair they might be too expensive for some people.

Stylish, but these socks looked rather short.

Overview of performance

These socks were too short to wear with wellies and riding boots. They worked best as sock to use around the yard with jodhpur boots. They have a thick sole and are breathable, but they wouldn’t be my first choice.

Things you like/dislike about it?

I liked the very comfy foot, but were too short on the calf

Verdict

I think there are better socks available for a similar price.

Made from a wool blend, the sock is naturally thermal to keep feet extra warm.

The sock has a padded foot for extra comfort and elasticated ankle and instep.

A new specialist riding sock is now available from Britiannia Products.

Thermal clothing specialist Hot Togs’ has added new knee length socks to its range.

The new socks wick away moisture from the foot and are made using 1/20 thermolite yarn and can be worn all year round as they provide extra warmth when it is needed.

The Riding Sock Company has added a new pair of socks to its collection designed for spring weather.

The “Eyelash Yarn Crew Socks” come in packs of two including one plain pink pair with a white heel and toes, and another pair in a choice of animal prints.

“Designed especially for riding, the socks are practical for everyday use and are created to be both comfortable and supportive,” said a company spokesman.

Coolhorsesocks has launched a new range of animal print socks.

The “Wild Things” socks feature animal print patterns up the length of the leg.

“We ran a survey and asked our customers to choose which designs they’d like to see join the Coolhorsesocks range,” says Tim Riley from the company.

“We’ve decided to call them by the colour they are rather than the print they are, so people can make up their own mind about whose spots or stripes they are sporting!”

The socks are available in brown, white and amber.

They have “Coolmax” padded feet with micromesh venting across the top of each foot. They also have a ribbed ankle and arch support as well as a contoured fit to help keep the socks in position.

“We can’t wait to see people riding around the countryside with their ‘Wild Things’ on show,” Tim added.

Coolsocks has released two new types of socks to its range to brighten up your summer wardrobe.

The “sunflower shines” and “hoopla” have padded feet to help keep feet cool and dry.

There is also micromesh venting across the top of the foot to encourage air to flow through, as well as arch and heel support to prevent the sock slipping and a flat toe seam for extra comfort.

“We like to introduce new designs regularly,” said Tim Riley from Coolhorsesocks.

“Our socks have quite a following now, and as people’s tastes are so diverse our range needs to expand to cater from them all. Sunflower shines really reflects the summer season, and hoopla is, perhaps a little more conservative, but still fun.”

Sunflower shine is bottle green and features vibrant sunflowers, and hoopla features stripes going up the leg of the sock, in either pink and blue, brown and blue and amber and petrol.
