New jewellery designs created in memory of event rider Georgie Campbell have been launched ahead of Mars Badminton Horse Trials (7 to 11 May).

Hiho Silver and Coco & Jane Loves, which worked with the Georgie Campbell Foundation in the build up to Christmas last year, have both created new pieces in time for Badminton.

The foundation, which aims to support eventing’s future by improving safety and assisting early stage eventing businesses in memory of Georgie, said that the designs are in response to customer requests and following strong Christmas sales.

“Developed in conjunction with the Georgie Campbell Foundation, the new pieces provide a fresh way to remember Georgie and raise vital funds for the foundation that has been set up to champion the sustainable future of the sport Georgie loved,” stated the announcement.

Hiho Silver’s Twig Collection, inspired by Georgie’s beloved dog and designed as a replica of a hornbeam twig from a tree at her family home, features eight new pieces in addition to the existing sterling silver necklace and cufflinks.

These include a Twig stock pin, available in sterling silver (£65, with £18 going to the foundation) and 18ct gold vermeil and sterling silver (£85, with £24 to the foundation).

There is also a new pendant necklace (sterling silver: £55, with £30 to the foundation; 18ct gold vermeil and sterling silver: £85, with 19 to the foundation), plus a selection of bracelets from £25 to £130 – all with a significant amount per purchase going to the foundation.

Coco & Jane Loves has launched four pieces in its new pearl collection, which features purple accents – a nod to Georgie’s purple and white cross-country colours. These are in addition to the brand’s original enamel zig zag bracelet in Georgie’s colours.

Every pearl in the collection is strung with purple thread, hand-knotted between each.

The Coco & Jane Loves collection features Georgie’s freshwater pearl bracelet (£55, with £37.50 to the foundation) and co-ordinating necklace (£75, with £50 to the foundation). It also includes Georgie’s freshwater pearl and zig-zag alloy anklet (£48, with £30.50 to the foundation, and Georgie’s freshwater pearl and zig-zag wrist-loop phone charm (£48, with £30.50 to the foundation).

Andrew Nicholson has revealed he will be commemorating the great event horse Avebury with an auction in aid of children with cancer.

Rosemary and Mark Barlow’s popular grey was put down on 6 September aged 16 after being diagnosed with a malignant bone tumour, for which there was no treatment. The multiple four-star winner was just months into his retirement.

A unique bracelet, made by from part of his tail by Horsehair Bracelets, together with a framed and signed photo of the legendary eventer (pictured, top), taken by Libby Law, will be auctioned through Andrew’s Facebook page.

Money raised will go to Kamran’s ward at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington, Oxford, where children receive treatment for cancer and other blood disorders.

“Avebury was a very kind horse who loved children,” said Andrew.

“He’s famous for winning international events but was just as happy being ridden by my daughter Lily in his short retirement.

“Several of those closely associated with Avebury have received life-saving treatment at the John Radcliffe — not least myself when I broke my neck last year.

“We would love your support.”

The auction opened on Saturday (24 August) and ends at midnight on Friday (30 September).

At the close of the auction, the highest bidder will be contacted and required to give their bid directly to the cause.

“Whilst we couldn’t help Avebury, we hope to do something positive to commemorate his life and help children currently receiving treatment for cancer — a disease which knows no boundaries of age or species,” Andrew wrote on his Facebook page.

How much do you love Valegro? A unique bracelet containing a lock of the dual Olympic gold medal-winners’ hair has been auctioned for an impressive $12,000 (£7,726).

The bracelet is made from plaited hair from the dressage star’s tail, nine-carat yellow gold engraved with “Valegro”, and 64 diamonds.

All of the funds will go to The CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust, which was founded in 2005 by a group of friends in New Zealand, including Catriona Williams and Charlotte Gendall.

Ms Williams is a former four-star eventer who had a riding accident in 2002, which left her in a wheelchair with tetraplegia.

“Catriona travelled to Las Vegas to watch the World Cup finals (15-19 April) and like everyone else she was blown away by the stunning performance of Charlotte [Dujardin] and Blueberry,” Ms Gendall told H&H.

“She’d had lessons with Carl [Hester] back in the UK and bumped into him outside a media conference. The spontaneous response [offering the Valegro hair] was very touching and we’re incredibly grateful.”

The bracelet was made by New Zealand jewellery company The Cambridge Collection.

The owner of the company, Chele Clarkin, was also in Las Vegas.

“It has been an honour and a thrill to be able to design and make this very special piece,” said Ms Clarkin.

“When Catriona then asked if we could do something I jumped at the chance. A huge thank you to Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin for allowing us to have a little piece of their champion.

“This has been a real team effort also involving Geoff Taylor Goldsmith’s studio.

“We make a lot of horsehair bracelets and they all have a story to tell but this one is like a fairy tale.”

The auction went live on Monday (8 June) and closed on Thursday (11 June).

“The response has been fantastic and we are grateful for each and every dollar,” added Ms Gendall.

“Over the years Catriona has used her drive and determination to bring on board patrons such as Zara Phillips and Sir Mark Todd.

“We’ve had fantastic support from the New Zealand racing and equestrian communities as well.”

Ms Williams added: “I would like to say a big thank you to the equestrian and racing community who have been an enormous part of CatWalk’s 10 years.

“Anything to do with horses is high risk but the bond you develop with a horse is like no other — Blueberry and Charlotte demonstrate this in bucketloads.”

Hiho Silver has added a new horseshoe range to its equestrian jewellery collection.

A horse-loving artist from Ireland has come up with an inventive horse memento. Claire Molloy creates horsehair ceramics.

“I place a piece of mane or tail on a hot piece of ceramic. The hair burns in, leaving behind beautiful black lines,” she said.

The range includes ornaments, pendants, brooches, tea-light holders and vases.

Claire, who grew up with horses and has worked at Coolmore Stud, wanted to combine her love for them with her artistic talent.

“I didn’t want to make literal sculptures of horses,” she told H&H. “It was while I was looking at Native American pottery at college that I came across the Navajo technique of horsehair pottery. I adapted this technique to make it more contemporary to suit my needs. As a horse owner, I especially enjoy making personalised pieces for others, using hair from their own horses.”

Claire has been commissioned to make many pieces, including a large vessel for Irish paralympic rider, Helen Kearney, using hair from her horse Mr Cool.

“We have spent a lot of time sourcing the leather for and designing these bracelets,” said Andrew Ransford, director at Hiho Silver.

“We wanted them to be the same quality as a premium bridle, so they would be loved by our equestrian customers.

“We’ve picked 4 great colours for these bracelets, so they look great when worn on their own or when stacked on the wrist.”

Sterling silver charms made by Hiho can also be added to the bracelet. The charms are available in either a horseshoe, saddle or fox head design.

The bracelet is available in raspberry, turquoise, chocolate and tan, and cost £40.

Jeweller Theo Fennell has launched a new stable door-style pendant, which opens to reveal your equine friend.

The pendant, which is made of 18ct gold, holds inside a hand-painted image of your favourite horse — you just provide a photo to work from.

“We have been designing a lot of pendants with complicated mechanisms — portholes, binoculars, windows and doors —through all of which you can see your favourite thing,” said Theo. “The stable door seemed a wonderful idea, to celebrate a favourite hack or the winner of a big race.

“We designed these for anyone who rides or owns a horse. We want to revive the idea of jewellery being individual and like to think these will have a story to tell the great-great-grandchildren.”

The pictures can also be put into stable door cufflinks.

However, they’ll set you back a bit — prices start at £12,500 — so you might need that big winner in the first place.

Hiho Silver has unveiled its latest leather and silver bracelet.

A sterling silver fox face is in the centre of the strap, which explains its name — the Foxy Rider bracelet.

“We’ve had a lot of fun with other “riders” — little sterling silver charms that slide onto our leather bracelets to make them extra special,” said Emma Warren, director at Hiho Silver.

“The Foxy Rider is exclusive to us, and was designed at our Somerset base. It started as a scribble and has developed into this.”

The bracelet is available on either a turquoise or brown leather strap.

Hiho Silver is going to launch a new necklace at the Cheltenham Festival. The green pearl and knot necklace combines pearls with sterling silver and is finished with a T clasp.

“We know how popular Cheltenham is with our Irish customers, so we decided to create something extra special for them,” said Andrew Ransford, director at Hiho Silver.

“The green pearls have a beautiful sheen and work really well with the sterling silver — it’s really beautiful and we’re hoping that it’ll go down a storm, especially as St Patrick’s Day falls just after the Festival.”

The Somerset-based jewellery company Hiho Silver has added a sterling silver whip brooch to its equestrian collection.

Hiho Silver, who sponsor junior eventing silver medallist Emily King, has say the brooch is perfect both day-to-day wear and also as a stock pin.

Emma Warren, finance director of Hiho Silver said: “Our Equestrian Collection is proving to be really popular at shows, and this lovely brooch is a winner as it can be used as a stunning stock pin or on the lapel of a jacket as a brooch.

A British jewellery brand has added an equestrian collection to its range.

Pearl & Queenie’s “Equestrian Treasures” includes gold horseshoe earrings, a hunting coin necklace and a ring with a snaffle bit on it.

The death of a horse or dog can be very painful. But now you can stay close to your much-loved pet forever, thanks to a new process that turns their ashes into jewellery or a photo frame.

Engineer Nick Cranham developed the idea with his wife Alla, a chemist. The ashes are suspended in a polymer that can then be fashioned into brooches, pendants, cufflinks and photo frames.

So far the company, Sentimental Connections, has had 200 clients.

“The nice thing is that it allows owners to have something tangible as well as being able to scatter the ashes in a favourite place,” said Nick.

“It doesn’t surprise me the idea has taken off as there are already products out there, like turning ashes into diamonds. But this is more affordable.”

Prices start at £110 for a photo frame and around £150 for a pendant, whereas an unset 0.20 carat diamond costs in the region of £2,500.

Rosemary Hurn, from Margate, wears a pendant made from her horse Ginny’s ashes.

“I was very distressed when Ginny died, and this pendant has brought a lot of comfort,” said Rosemary. “Many people ask ‘What stone is that?’ Some think it is lovely and others are not sure, but I think it’s beautiful.”

Although the concept started off with pets, it has proved so popular that customers are now asking for human keepsakes.

“About 10 per cent of people I meet think it’s a bit macabre, but they would not be the type to want to keep ashes in any form,” said Nick.
