It includes a hall, three reception rooms, a conservatory, kitchen/breakfast room, utility room/second kitchen, six bedrooms and four bath/shower rooms.

And on top of that there are seven popular holiday cottages with laundry facility in the grounds, all formed from agricultural buildings.

There are 31.4 acres of gardens and land in all and the property is conveniently located in a pretty village a mile from the M4 at junction 8/9.

And, more importantly, what’s the set-up for the horses?

The horses will be in heaven with 30 loose boxes, set in two individual yards.

Twelve of these boxes are within two American barns, six in each, and the rest in further stable buildings. There is a dedicated wash bay, numerous storage barns for tack, feed and bedding, a groom’s log cabin with room, kitchen and shower, a 20x60m outdoor floodlit arena and ample parking and turning for lorries and trailers.

The level land is about 28 acres in all divided into various paddocks by post and rail fencing, each with a water trough.
The field for the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) supreme horse has widened following the news that Carol Bardo and Jackie Beatham’s riding horse, Comberton Clancy, will not defend his 2011 title.

Carol said the nine-year-old, who was unable to compete at the Royal International (17-22 July) because he overreached just before his class, will not come out again this season.

So what are the experts’ top tips for the 2012 Home Farm Hothorpe and the Mulbrooke Stud supreme horse of the year?

Producer Nigel Hollings thinks Robert Walker’s HOYS 2011 cob of the year Starry Night could take the top honours this year.

“He constantly caught my eye at the BSHA [British Show Horse Association] championship show,” said Nigel.

“He’s a lovely model of a heavyweight and one of the judges for the supreme, Mike Daley [of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society], will appreciate a good cob.”

Katie Jerram’s Dunbeacon is also a real contender for the title.

He took the 2010 supreme and is – “touch wood” – going to be at HOYS again this year, said Katie.

But she added: “It’s hard enough to win a class let alone a championship – it comes down to who the judges are and what they are looking for.”

Katie also rates Robert Oliver’s heavyweight Loughkeen Dancing Lord and wonders if Jayne Webber and The Humdinger might triumph.

“Could Jayne pull it off even without Clancy? I think so. ‘Dinger’ has a 100% record [in the coloured class at HOYS],” she said.

HOYS runs from 3-7 October and the supreme takes place during the evening performance on the final day.

For show information and to book, visit www.hoys.co.uk or tel: 0844 581 8282.

This news story was first published in the current issue of H&H (20 September 2012)

Stay in touch with all the news in the run-up to and throughout the major shows and events during 2026 and beyond with a Horse & Hound subscription. Subscribe today for all you need to know ahead of these major events, plus online reports on the action as it happens from our expert team of reporters and in-depth analysis in our special commemorative magazines. The elegant bay mare never missed a beat to lead this strong class throughout.

An absorbing Retraining of Racehorses class, which drew 20 starters, fell to Tim Billington’s Blue Java, who came up the line after giving judge, Shelley Perham, an excellent ride. The nine-year-old ran 46 times on the Flat and won more than £26,000.

Katie Davis was a deserving champion in the hack division, after her small winner, Kingsford Silver Spray, never put a foot wrong. Karen Ledger headed the amateur cobs with her new ride this season, Grigio Fumo, and the amateur hack class fell to Kirstie Harris and her four-year-old, Comberton Crafstman, another produced from the Jerram yard.

Don’t miss H&H full report on all the action from Royal Windsor, on sale Thursday 20 May
