If a lot happens in a week in horses, consider how much has happened in 130 years. Many of the sports that are closest to H&H’s heart now barely existed back then, with the first Badminton Horse Trials still some 55 years away.
Hunting and racing, on the other hand, were already deeply woven through Britain’s rural fabric. Horse & Hound — a weekly title from the first issue — encompassed far more in those days than horses and hounds, including other sports such as rowing.
This week we celebrate other firms who have served British riders for as many years as we have; we seek out the families who have enjoyed Horse & Hound for generations, and we reflect on the rapidly changing face of media.
