New carriage driving venue for Lancashire

A new indoor arena and riding centre is under construction in Overton, near Morecambe in Lancashire.
It is hoped that the new Lanquestrian riding centre will host carriage driving shows and trials, as well as ridden showing and dressage competitions.
“We already offer basic singles tuition in carriage driving but there is nowhere nearby to compete,” said Jeanette O’Callaghan, director and centre manager of Lanquestrian.
“It’s a 200-mile round trip for us to compete at the nearest driving trials, in the Chester and Wales area, so it would be great to have our own competitions here in north Lancashire.”
With groundwork complete, work on the building’s foundations begins tomorrow and it is hoped the indoor arena will be ready for use in November.
“It’s taken us four years to get this far and we haven’t dug out an unexploded bomb yet, so things are going to plan,” Ms Callaghan said.
The green field site was acquired four years ago with the intention of moving the nearby Lunebank Riding Centre onto the site and building a new indoor arena, conference room, café, tack shop and cross-country course.
Ms O’Callaghan founded the Lunebank Riding Centre, an ABRS approved riding school and Pony Club centre, 11 years ago.
It will be incorporated into Lanquestrian.
Work goes on despite the construction work and the centre currently runs riding lessons and a livery yard, with approximately 50 horses needing to be housed at the new site.
