What you didn’t know about… Tinka’s Serenade

  • Irish showjumper Billy Twomey talks to H&H about his feisty London 2012 ride.

    Fact file

    Stable name: Tinka

    Age: 15

    Height: 16.2hh

Breed: Anglo European Studbook (AES) mare

    Sire: Tinka’s Boy

    Dam: Serenade (by Carnaval Drum)

    Discipline: showjumping

    Rider: Billy Twomey

    Owners: Sue & Eddie Davies

    Groom: Alana Gamble

Best ever result: Rolex Top Ten champion, Gucci Masters, Paris, 2011

    Five things you didn’t know…

1 She’s a fussy eater. One day she will eat mix but not nuts and then the next day vice versa, depending on her mood.

2 Tinka loves being turned out, but will jump out of the field if she’s on her own. She has to be with Charlie B – Billy’s daughter Evie’s pony.

3 She is very sensitive to noise in the warm-up and becomes lit up at public speaker announcements or music, but forgets as soon as she is in the ring.

4 She finished in the top 15 individually at both the last European Championships (Madrid 2011, 15th) and World Equestrian Games (Kentucky 2010, 13th).

5 Tinka was a late developer. It wasn’t until she reached the age of 12 that she started to relax and win the classes Billy always knew she could.
