Searching for Britain’s top SJ ponies


  • Viewing trials for riders with JA ponies who wish to be considered for the 2003 European Championships from 22-27 July will be held on the following dates:

    • 23-26 May: venue to be confirmed
    • 7-8 June: Patchetts EC
    • 29 June-2 July: Royal Show AK Grand Prix and AK Winter Classic

    International shows with team competitions are on the following dates:

    • 25-27 April: Diest
    • 1-4 May: CSIOP Wales & the West
    • 8-11 May: Le Touquet
    • 19-22 Jun: Freudenberg

    Viewing trials enable the selectors to see ponies and riders competing at venues with different surfaces and jumps. Riders wishing to be considered for selection must attend all the trials, including the Royal Show.

    The AK Grand Prix at the Royal Show is open to qualified ponies and invited riders, who may jump competitively. The AH Winter Classic is open to qualified ponies, but invited non-qualified riders must compete hors concours in order to be considered for team selection.

    To be considered, combinations must be jumping clear rounds and going consistently in major classes. Ponies must also be ridden in the correct tack, as listed in the FEI rulebook.

    All ponies must be in possession of a valid FEI height certificate and pass a trot-up.Random blood tests are taken at the European Championships, while the BSJA’s stipendiary stewards may also take urine samples.
