Pony riders dominate in Belgium

  • The British pony show jumping squad enjoyed a successful visit to LiŠge CSIPA in Belgium

The all-conquering British squad of pony show jumpers carried on their winning ways at the LiŠge CSIPA in Belgium, where they headed four of the six competitions, including the grand prix.

This went to the in-form combination of Louise Pavitt and New York Spritzer, whose quick double clear was good enough to take the honours from home riderJan Vlemmix, who finished more than 3sec in arrears on Sharon.

The reigning European individual champions, Switzerland’s Faye Schoch and the Welsh stallion, Machno Carwyn, finished third, just ahead of HOYS winners Martha Beaumont and Colton Maelstrom.

This was the second victory of the show for Louise Pavitt and New York Spritzer, who had taken the previous day’s jump-off class by a good margin, this time holding off the challenge from Faye Schoch’s two ponies, Machno Carwyn and Sabra.

The show began well for Britain when St Albans-based Hannah Paul galloped to victory in the opening speed on her attractive dun pony, Kahola Maestro. The other British win came in the first day’s two-phase, when Martha Beaumont and Colton Maelstrom’ssuper round could not be bettered.
