Farewell to… former national showjumper John Betteridge

  • The hunting man, farmer and horse dealer John Betteridge died on 17 December aged 82.

    Mr Betteridge was a talented rider who was a leading national showjumper in the 1950s and 60s, as well as an amateur steeplechase jockey.

    He hunted with the Meynell from childhood.

    Mr Betteridge won his first showing class at the age of five. He won the Horse & Hound Cup at Horse of the Year Show and published a memoir called Born to Deal.

    He leaves his wife Linda and their son and daughter, Tim and Sarah.
