What you didn’t know about… Loughkeen Dancing Lord

  • Showman Robert Oliver tells H&H about the gentle giant with a huge heart.

    Fact file

    Stable name: Ben

    Age: 8

    Height: 17.2hh

    Breed: Irish draught

    Sire: Crosstown Dancer

    Discipline: showing

Owners: Bernie White & Dave Harries

    Rider: Robert Oliver

    Groom: Lorna Faulconbridge

Best ever results: 2009 1st hwt hunter at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS). 2010 1st hwt at HOYS and hunter champion at Royal International (RIHS).

    Five things you didn’t know…

1 He was bred in Ireland and bought by Bernie White when she was viewing another horse at a yard in Pembrokeshire.

2 Ben had 16 consecutive wins over the 2010-11 period, the only time he was beaten was at HOYS last year when he was second (to Act Flyn Lad).

3 Unlike many seasoned horses, Ben has fortunately not become ring-crafty nor failed to give a judge a good ride.

4 He loves people and is the kindest horse in the stable, but he does get nervous when he knows he’s going to a show.

5 When he first arrived we didn’t realise what a big natural jump he’s got.
