Welsh centenary celebrated at HOYS

  • The Horse of the Year Show is celebrating the Welsh Pony and Cob Society’s Centenary Year (1901-2001) by holding a one-off championship class during the gala evening performance on Sunday 7 October.

The Welsh Centenary Championship will be open to pure and part-bred Welsh ponies and cobs that win, or are the highest placed in their championship classes at this year’s show.

Preliminary judging will take place on Sunday afternoon with six finalists going through to the Centenary Championship in the International Arena.

Rob Jones, member of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society Centenary Celebrations Committee says: “Welsh Blood is a proven success in all but a few disciplines, with pure and part-bred ponies and cobs consistently winning at the highest level.

“The Horse of the Year Show is the pinnacle of the entire showing calendar and we are delighted that we are able to recognise the versatility and all-round achievements of the Welsh breeds at HOYS during our 2001 Centenary year.”

This unique championship will be sponsored by Brightwells auctioneers, which holds regular auctions for the Welsh Pony and Cob Society.
