Ponies (UK) summer championships

  • At the end of a memorable week at the Ponies (UK) summer championships, Emily Lacy and Radway All Talk (pictured below at BSPS 2006) claimed the Patrons Cup as national champion of champions.

After earning many wins and titles throughout the week at a rain soaked Newark & Notts Showground, the pair retained all their sparkle and enthusiasm to also clinch the Ron Hayes Memorial Supreme title on the final evening. They then stood stand reserve supreme to Lesley Bishop-Milnes’s Wayward Silhouette in the final Hindley Cup.

Bought after the 2005 Horse of the Year Show with this season in mind, Emily grew into the Radway Ptarmigan sired eight-year-old earlier than anticipated, and in just a handful of classes contested last autumn, the classy black gelding clinched the BSPS Dennbybeck title, and became 14.2hh show pony of the year at Birmingham.

On a bitterly cold, and wet evening, Emily and Radway All Talk remained foot perfect throughout.

“He’s an amazing pony, with lots of character. He loved it out there, and felt on song all the way through” said Emily, who rides and looks after her ponies at home.

The final Hindley Cup, presented to the supreme champion of show went to Lesley-Bishop Milnes’s Wayward Silhouette. Produced and handled by Craig Elenore, the three-year-old is by Sandbourne Royal Ensign out of Wayward River.

Birmingham-bound for the prestigious Cuddy Championship, a qualification earned almost on the same spot at Newark and Notts County Show in May, the quality black mare also clinched the Risley championship and Newark Cup on her way to the final title here.

“This is more than we dared hope for. We’ll now put her away until Horse of the Year Show,” said Craig.
