  • A work rider for a racehorse trainer in Hampshire will appear on “Farmer wants a wife” tonight on Channel Five.

Farmer wants a wife, presented by Louise Redknapp, is a six-part series in which lovelorn farmers spend five days with potential partners to take them through the ropes of modern farming

Racing fan Gabbie Moisey, who works for trainer John Bridger in Liphook, was chosen from 300 hopefuls to spend a week on a farm with cattle-breeder Willie, from Northern Ireland.

Prior to the programme, 25 prospective partners, of whom two finalists were chosen, met Willie in Belfast over a dinner, which was followed by one-on-one speed dating.

“I was so surprised that I ended up on the show,” explained Gabbie.

“Last February I found myself sitting on my own on Valentine’s Day when I saw the advertisement for the show and I applied without thinking much of it.

“Over 300 women applied to spend a week with Willie so I shocked that I even made the shortlist.

“Although I missed the horses and couldn’t wait to get back to work, I had a great week. Going to a pedigree cow-show was a real highlight.

“However, having to do a rectal examination of a cow was a definite lowlight!”

Did love blossom on the farmyard? You’ll have to watch at 9pm tonight to find out…
