  • Changes announced for this year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and the Houghton Yearling Sale

Tattersalls October Yearling Sale (15-19 October) will follow a new format this year with the strongest lots going under the hammer during the first two days of the five-day sale.

The number of yearlings being sold at the sale will be limited to 950, a reduction from last year’s record number of 1089.

“Huge foal crops have led to record numbers in the October Yearling Sale,” explained Tattersalls chairman, Edmond Mahony. “The changes will allow vendors to bring the higher profile lots into Park Paddocks well before the sale providing maximum viewing time for prospective buyers.”

Tattersalls say the reduction in numbers means entry criteria will be more stringent than previously with yearling inspections beginning two to three weeks earlier than usual.

  • This year’s Houghton Yearling Sale(2-3 October) is being reduced from three to two days. This coincides with the changes to Newmarket Racecourse’s Cambridgeshire Meeting (2-5 October).
