  • Ballabriggs, winner of the 2011 Grand National, has been retired.

Trainer Donald McCain announced today (Friday 12 April) that the 12-year-old gelding would not run again.

His last run was in Saturday’s (6 April) Grand National, where he was pulled up.

“He didn’t sparkle in last week’s renewal and it was decided that he had earned his retirement — he doesn’t owe anyone anything,” McCain said in his Betfair column.

Ballabriggs will spend his retirement in the Isle Of Man, with another of owner Trevor Hemmings’ recently retired stars Cloudy Lane.
