It was nice to finally get into action last night. The course designers set us a tough but not unfair course.
We were expecting some really vividly painted fences with spooky designs and fillers but they were quite toned down — I’m sure they’re saving them for later in the week.
Ruby [Corlato] jumped really well and was solid in the ring. I admit to making a mistake down the final line with almost too much control which made my six strides to the last slightly off, but I’m delighted none the less.
The competition only counts for us towards our position when the team competition starts so it had a purpose in that respect, but it was also a good opportunity to get used to the ring.
The dressage riders are in action tonight and then the spotlight is back on us for the team competition. So far the team spirit is excellent so let’s hope we can turn that into a medal.
