World number one showjumper Scott Brash set for Olympia

  • World number one showjumper Scott Brash is set to compete at Olympia, The London International Horse Show next month (16-22 December).

The Scotsman is one of several top British riders heading to the show, which will thrill showjumping fans. It is not yet confirmed which horses Scott will be riding.

Earlier this month the 29-year-old became the first showjumper since 2006 to sit at the top of the Longines world rankings for more than a year, so his appearance will be a boost for Olympia and fans.

Scott’s Olympic gold medal-winning teammate Ben Maher will also be jumping and is so far down to take Contigo 37, Diva II, Noctambule Courcelle and Wings Sublieme.

Other top British names include Spencer Roe (Ballando II, Chaccomo Agostini, Wonder Why), Joe Clee (Gamko S, Utamaro D’Ecaussines, Vedet de Muze ET), Laura Renwick (Bintang II, Heliodor Hybris, Rembrandt Blue and Roller Coaster), Guy Williams (Casper de Muze, Depardieu van’t Kiezelhof, Titus and Zaire) and a host of Whitakers — John, Michael, Robert and William.

John has entered Argento, Darcon Scheefkastel Z and Woulon L. Michael has Cassionato, Valentin R and Viking. Robert has Catwalk IV, Cocaine, USA Today and Zantos II while his cousin William has Bow House Rubis, Centomento JZ, Fandango and Glenavadra Brilliant.

Up-and-coming Irish star Bertram Allen, who has been making waves on the circuit this year winning at his first World Cup show earlier this month (9 November), is due to attend with grey mare Molly Malone V. The pair also took this year’s grand prix at Dublin Horse Show and finished seventh individually at the FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games in the summer. Fellow Irish rider Denis Lynch will also be jumping.

Among those travelling over from the Continent will be world number three, German rider Marcus Ehning, number five, France’s Kevin Staut, number seven, Daniel Deusser (Germany) and Olympic champion, Steve Guerdat of Switzerland.

From further afield come Australian rider Edwina Tops-Alexander and US stars Lauren Hough (Ohala) and Reed Kessler (Cylana)

Scott is not the only world number one at the show though — Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro will be competing earlier in the week in what promises to be some high calibre dressage.
