A woman was taken to hospital after being crushed by a horse inside a horsebox.

The horsebox was travelling on the westbound carriageway of the M54, between junctions 1 and 2 in Wolverhampton.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the woman, who was in the horsebox in a layby, at about 10.20am on Monday, 1 December.

Police could not confirm whether or not she had been in the horsebox with the horse when the vehicle was moving.

The injured woman, who is thought to have been from Newmarket, was taken to New Cross Hospital with broken ribs.
