Top jockeys face puissance competition at Lambourn Open Day

  • BBC Sports Personality of the Year AP McCoy is to join the line-up of top former and current jockeys taking part in a showjumping puissance competition at this year’s Lambourn Open Day.

Jockey turned TV presenters John Francome and Mick Fitzgerald will also be competing.

The open day takes place on Good Friday, 22 April and trainers in the Lambourn Valley, Berkshire, will open their yards for the public to meet their equine stars.

Other entertainment will include a sheep dog display, horseball and farriery demos.

The day, which attracts crowds of up to 10,000 is racing’s best attended non-racecourse event.

Mark Smyly, chairman of the Betfair Lambourn Open Day committee, said: “It’s a wonderful day out for the family. Each year the event grows in popularity and scale and without the support of our sponsors, trainers, jockeys and the Lambourn community it would not be the success that it is.”

Tickets cost £12 for the whole day or £6 for the afternoon.

All money raised supports local charities including the Lambourn Valley Housing Trust and Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
