The Horse Trust welcomes community pony Ruby

  • After spending 15 years working with children, Ruby, a part-bred Hackney pony, has been retired to The Horse Trust’s Home of Rest for Horses in Princes Risborough, Bucks.

Twenty eight-year-old Ruby used to live at Wellgate Community Farm in Romford, East London.

In her time there, the popular pony gave rides, visited local schools, attended fetes and building confidence in nervous children.

Donna Widlake from Wellgate Community Farm, said: “We’re really happy The Horse Trust is taking her in as it’s such a lovely place. She’s now got loads of acres to roam around in.”

“Visitors to the farm always ask where Ruby is. Some of the children who visit the farm are nervous and shy, but spending time with animals like Ruby gives them more confidence.”

Ruby will now spend her days at the charity’s 200-acre centre.

Paul Jepson, chief executive of The Horse Trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ruby. She has given so much to her local community and we hope she will have a long and healthy retirement here.”
