Supermodel Edie Campbell wins charity race at Goodwood

  • Supermodel Edie Campbell won the Ladies’ Day charity race at Glorious Goodwood earlier this afternoon in style.

Girls took centre stage in the Magnolia Cup charity race, which took place before the main card at Glorious Goodwood today (Thursday, 28 July).

The face of Burberry and Marc Jacobs won the 6f charity race ahead of Channel 4 Racing presenter Emma Spencer, the favourite, who finished second.

Britain’s number one dressage rider Laura Bechtolsheimer came third.

Edie is also a Warwickshire Pony Club branch member and has just qualified for the Pony Club intermediate eventing championships

She rode the George Baker-trained horse “George Baker”, who was renamed “Harrodian Hotshot” for the day. All the horses were running under different names for the race.

“It was amazing — the best fun I’ve ever had,” said Edie.

“The race completely flew by. He is an amazing horse and carried me home.”

Trainer George Baker added: “Edie’s been a star, she’s taken it all seriously and been riding out every morning. And the horse is a bit of a legend.”

The fundraiser for Great Ormond Street Hospital attracted high-profile names including Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox, Tatler editor Kate Reardon and Francesca Cumani — daughter of trainer Luca.

Annette Lynton Mason — wife of Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason — appeared to be having problems with her tack and was unseated after the winning post and was taken to hospital. She was reportedly conscious.
