Paralympic star Sophie Christiansen has been sidelined for several weeks with a broken collarbone.
The 25-year-old triple Olympic gold medallist and reigning European champion was taking part in a demonstration when she fell from her top horse, Janeiro 6 (Rio).
“It was quite a public fall, but these things happen. There’s always risk in this sport. I’ll be in a sling for 2 weeks and then I will have it re x-rayed and possibly some physio,” said Berkshire-based Sophie.
Her local hospital, Wexham Park, where she went to be examined, has a ward named after her.
“I went into A&E and everyone recognised me,” she continued. “Just when I wanted to be anonymous!”
Once she has recovered from her injury, Christiansen told the official paralympic movement that she has her sights clearly set on next year’s World Equestrian Games (WEG) and then on Rio 2016.
My coach [Clive Milkins] and I have a clear plan,” she said. “We want [horse] Rio to have all 3 titles — European, World and Olympic.”
