Socks the Shetland rocks knitwear


  • Socks the Shetland pony, who hit the spotlight last year in a video advert for mobile phone company Three, is using his new-found celebrity status to boost tourism in Scotland.

    As part of his new role as an ambassador for the Islands, he met 2 competition winners from London.

    Chris Harrison and his girlfriend Olivia Delnevo won a free visit to the Shetland Isles for wearing the best knitwear before Christmas.

    Socks 4 - low resAs part of the competition the couple also got to meet Socks in his “I love Shetland” sweater, which was specially knitted by local designer Doreen Brown.

    “We’ve had a fantastic time on Shetland – but meeting Socks face-to-face has definitely been a highlight,” said Chris Harrison.

    “Some people say celebrities can be difficult in real life, but Socks seems really comfortable with his fame.”

    Socks’ work as an ambassador seems to paying off. A recent survey showed that 65,000 people visited Shetland between October 2012 and September 2013, boosting the local economy by over £16.2 million.
