Shire horses will thunder down the track at Lingfield Park to mark the centenary of World War 1 this Saturday (28 June).
Champion-chase winning jockey Jamie Moore is one of those taking part in the ‘Showerking Flying Features Shire Horse Charge.’
Kent-based Hurst Green Shires is providing all the horses for the race.
Last year’s inaugural race was won by jockey Mark Grant, riding Joey.
Hercules, one of the Shires taking part, can trace his ancestry back to the original war horses.
He is leading a march past of current, former and future members of the armed forces at Lingfield Park.
“One of his line was requisitioned by the army in 1914 and ended up in France, so it is very apt he is should be heading up the parade on the day,” said Jax Gardiner from Hurst Green Shires.
There are also 7 more conventional throughbred races on the all-weather track at Lingfield, live music and a display by the Royal British Legion to mark Armed Forces Day on 28 June.
