Rider awarded £37,000 compensation from riding school

  • A Welsh rider has been awarded £37,000 plus costs by a High Court judge in Cardiff, as compensation for injuries caused by the inconsiderate actions of a riding school employee.

Ceri Tonkinson, of Dinas Powys, sued Downside Riding School of Sully Road, Penarth, for the negligent riding of their employee Stephen Davies in July 2007.

Mrs Tonkinson was riding in Cosmeston Country Park near Cardiff on a young, recently backed horse when Mr Davies rode up behind.

She asked Mr Davies to wait but he overtook them, causing her horse to rear up and for her to fall off, resulting in fractures to her pelvis and back.
