Redwings horses benefit from Imprint Equine Foot Care

  • Rescued horses are enjoying the benefits of nail-less, plastic shoes after farriers used the animals as models for perfecting their skills.

Imprint Equine Foot Care ran a training day for farriers at Norfolk-based Redwings Horse Sanctuary last week, when ten blacksmiths and a vet from across the country came together to learn more about assessing horses’ limbs and feet for soundness and shoeing accordingly.

The group were trained to fit Imprint’s Sports Shoe, which is designed to mould itself around the horse’s hoof, as a therapeutic measure for those with conformation or lameness issues.

Roxane Kirton, Redwings welfare veterinary surgeon, said: “We were more than happy to host Imprint’s training course.

“As the old saying goes, ‘no foot, no horse’, so we were keen to see how these shoes improve the lives of horses with long term hoof or leg problems.
“Our models for the day – Molly, Aramis, Kez, Emily and Rummy – very much enjoyed all the attention and are very pleased with their new sets of plastic shoes.”

Imprint’s Dean Bland added: “The attendees carried out some really high quality work and we’ve had some great feedback from them so far – some of whom have already put their new knowledge into action.”
