Polo team for London named as worldwide series is launched

  • A new spectator-friendly polo series was officially launched in London last week.

The World Polo Series will be a succession of Polo in the Park events at six cities worldwide, starting with a three-day tournament in Hurlingham Park in Fulham, London from 4-6 June.

A team from each participating city — London, Mumbai, Moscow, Paris and New York — will take part in the world series.

At the launch, Jack Kidd, former England captain Henry Brett, current ladies England captain Kirsty Craig and Jamie Morrison were named as the team for London.

The traditional rules of polo have been re-formatted for the series, which will be televised in organisers’ efforts to bring the game “to the people”.

Organiser Daniel Fox-Davies said: “For the first time in 70 years the turf of Hurlingham will once again thunder with the hooves of a fast and furious polo match. The World Series will set a benchmark for outdoor entertainment events.”

Tickets start at £7.50, visit www.polointheparklondon.com
