Police are investigating the suspected murder of a horse rider, after a woman was found dead in the New Forest on Tuesday (2 September).

“We are treating the discovery of a woman’s body in Beaulieu as murder,” said Detective Superintendent Paul Barton, of Hampshire Police.

The police were called at around 4.42pm when the woman’s body was found in a field at Lyndhurst Road.

Officers said it appeared that she was tending her horse before she died. The death is being treated as “suspicious”.

A post-mortem examination is being carried out and Hampshire Police are now appealing for witnesses.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area of Lyndhurst Road, Beaulieu on Tuesday 2 September between 2pm and 5pm to contact us,” added Detective Superintendent Paul Barton.

“We will be increasing our patrols in the area but I want to remind the community that crimes of this nature are extremely rare.”
