Police appeal for information after horse shot with air rifle

  • Police in Sussex are appealing for information after a horse was found with facial wounds in East Preston.

Police believe the horse might have been shot with an air rifle.

The horse was found by its owners last Friday morning (19 March) with four minor wounds around his face. Police think the incident occurred at some point on Thursday evening (18 March).

“It is difficult to say exactly what happened as there were no witnesses and there is no CCTV,” said a spokesman for Sussex Police.

“A vet examined the horse and thinks it could be an air pellet wound as the minor facial grazing is consistent with this.

“However, it could have been caused by a catapult or even jagged fencing. We’d like to know if there are any other similar incidents in the area.”

If anyone has information please contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999, quoting serial 562 18/03/10.
