Rescued orphaned foals become best buddies after ‘terrible start’ [PICTURES]

  • Elsa and Anna 2Two orphaned foals have become close friends following their rescue by the RSPCA.

The youngsters, who have been named after Disney’s Frozen characters Princess Anna and Princess Elsa, were found in a poor state by the charity.

Elsa, a dark bay seven-week-old filly, was found next to her dead mother in a field in Redhill, Surrey, earlier this year (24 April).

Anna, a four-week-old skewbald filly, was discovered stuck in a big hole when she was less than a week old last month (15 May).

Elsa and Anna 3“She was in a field by herself. We think her owner had come and taken the mares [who had been in the field] and didn’t realise she had been born,” an RSPCA spokesman told Horse & Hound.

Anna joined Elsa at the RSPCA’s Millbook Animal Centre in Chobham, Surrey.

The foals are now being hand-reared and put on a lively display as they were let out into their new paddock together for the first time last Tuesday (2 June).

“They hElsa and Anna 7ave had such a terrible start in life, but have recovered well and it was a pleasure to watch them run and play in their new paddock,” said Liz Wood deputy manager at Millbrook Animal Centre.

The foals were initially let out for an hour or two at a time to get them used to their new surroundings but are now enjoying full days in their paddock.

Elsa and Anna 4“All the staff here at Millbrook are spellbound by these two lovely babies,” added Ms Wood.

“We will continue to care for them until they are ready to be rehomed and hopefully live happily ever after.”
