Is your mare outstanding? Nominate her for Horse & Hound award


  • Calling all mare owners — nominations for the H&H Outstanding Mare Award 2015 are open.

    We would love to hear from you if you have a mare (alive or deceased) who has produced progeny who have enjoyed success in any equestrian discipline, has had an outstanding competition career herself, or both.

    The award will be presented to the breeder or associate of the mare who, in the opinion of the relevant discipline and the awards committee, has made the greatest contribution to British-bred success.

    Previous winners include Woodlander Dornroschen, dam of Woodlander Farouche, UK Hanoverians’ foundation mare Welunja,  and Kings Mistress, dam of four-star eventer Kings Temptress.

    Nominations from previous years will not be carried over, but mare owners are welcome to re-submit their nominations, even if they didn’t make the shortlist in previous years.

    The award will be presented at the glitzy British Breeders’ awards dinner in London on 10 January 2015, one of the most popular social events in the breeding calendar.

    South Essex Insurance Brokers Meritoire Award

    Nominations have also opened for the SEIB Meritoire award, which is is presented to a person who has made an outstanding lifetime contribution to the performance sport horse and pony breeding industry in Britain. This award will also be presented at the annual British Breeders’ Awards Dinner.

    Previous winners have included the Louella Stud for their contribution to sport horse breeding; Johanna Vardon, founder of the National Foaling Bank, for her contribution to the health and wellbeing of orphaned foals and Archie Smith Maxwell, breeder of Jumbo, one of the highest ranking event sires of all time. In 2014 Professor Graham Suggett was the recipient of this award in recognition for a lifetime’s contribution to the breeding industry.
