New sponsor for top polo tournament

  • Britain’s premier medium-goal polo tournament, the Royal Windsor Cup, has found a new sponsor.

The Larchmont Group, a Polish investment company, is expanding its polo interests and has taken on the role of exclusive sponsor of the event in 2004.

Guards Polo Club has hosted a Royal Windsor Cup tournament since the club was founded in 1955. The event attracts the best teams in the country to battle for the coveted trophy. Marek Dochnal, Larchmont’s founder and chairman, will accompany the Queen when she presents the Royal Windsor Cup this year.

Larchmont’s first foray into the sport was to sponsor a polo team, which has already seen success this year with an 8-7 victory over the Cartier team in the prestigious Cartier World Polo Cup on Snow at St Moritz. The Larchmont squad is expected to battle for honours in several high-goal tournaments this season.

Marek explained: “I was delighted with the opportunity to not only be involved in playing polo, but to support one of the most important tournaments in the English polo calendar. I am really looking forward to both playing in Britain this season and being involved in the Larchmont Royal Windsor Cup competition.”

This year’s Larchmont Royal Windsor Cup will take place from 30 May – 20 June. Spectators will also enjoy watching the country’s best carriage drivers in action as the British Driving Society’s annual show winners will parade after the polo final and receive their rosettes from the Queen.

Diana Butler of the Guards Polo Club is delighted about the new sponsorship. She told HHO: “It’s fantastic. It is such good news having a new, enthusiastic sponsor, who is not only looking to give support to a team, but who also wants to provide sponsorship for a Premier Tournament.”
