New equine hospital opens in Newmarket

  • A new multi-million pound equine hospital is set to open in Newmarket.

The facility will be the new home for established Newmarket vets Greenwood Ellis and Partners.

Practice partner and British Equine Veterinary Association president, David Dugdale, said: “We have been anxious to develop new diagnostic techniques, including gamma (bone scans) and MRI, for some time, but they all need a lot of space.

“This new hospital will have all the right experimental and laboratory theatres.”

The hospital will house an X-ray and scanning unit, dedicated pre- and post-operation recovery areas, a farrier, a post-mortem department, barns, stables, paddocks and lungeing zones. It will house more than 70 staff.

All boxes will be equipped with heating systems, cameras and glass observation panels, so that patients can be closely monitored, by the 30 vets.

“We’re so excited to have finally found a suitable site to develop. All is on target, and we’re looking forward to offering an even better service to our existing clients, and hopefully welcoming many new ones,” added Mr Dugdale.
