New equestrian college for Somerset

  • Details have been announced of new equestrian college for Somerset.

Divoky Riding School is set in what is described as “stunning countryside” at Downhead, between Frome and Shepton Mallet.

Horses are stabled in a 17th century manor house courtyard.

Divoky Riding School has been approved by Equestrian Qualifications GB Limited (EQL) for training and assessing candidates for work-based diplomas in Horse Care and Riding. EQL is an Ofqual recognised Awarding Organisation and is a subsidiary of The British Horse Society.

Centre manager Pat Burrough said: “Students train on a part-time or full-time basis in a working environment designed to prepare them to become employees within the equine industry, or prepare them for further education in colleges or universities.”

“These popular courses suit practically-minded students who would like to make a career within the equine world,” she added.

Ms Burroughs said the programme was flexible enough to offer training to students on any weekday, in order to suit the schools timetable.

A rolling intake means students are welcome to attend interview at any time of year. Those successful will be able to reserve a training place once their school has agreed the funding.

The Divoky Riding School has also had success with students with special educational needs including challenging behaviour, dyslexia and other moderate learning difficulties.
