New British Eventing course planned for Blindley Heath in Surrey

  • Another event could appear on the British Eventing (BE) calendar in the future following plans to build a new BE course in Blindley Heath, Surrey.

The cross-country course at Blue Anchor Farm, which currently hosts the Mid Surrey Farmers Drag and has previously held affiliated show jumping and dressage, will be upgraded and revamped this year.

“We are at the beginning of the long and lengthy process of assessing a new site,” said Robert Mackenzie, southern regional director of BE.

“Although currently we are miles away from establishing a BE event, we are aiming to find a date in the calendar where there is lots of demand.”

It is hoped that the course will be completed in time to hold a one-day event in August of this year, and to host BE events next year.

“We are running lots of demonstrations and lectures to raise funds,” Sheilagh Young, fundraising organiser, told H&H. “Lucinda Green is giving a lecture at Merrist Wood on 30 June, and we are hoping to organise another with Tim Stockdale soon.”

“We think it will be a super event: we’re easy accessible from the M25, and you can view parts of the cross-country course clearly from the box car park.

“Although we will start with intro and pre novice events, we are hoping to go further in the future.”
