A mother and daughter from Norfolk have been banned for keeping all animals for 15 years.
They were found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to 3 horses at Norfolk Magistrates Court on 4 April.
Elf was found covered in lice
Sally-Anne Rix, 48, and her 20-year-old daughter, Louise Carla had abandoned the horses in a field but after lengthy investigations the RSPCA proved ownership.
The horses were found covered in lice, very thin and had terrible problems with their feet.
Inspector Ben Kirby said: “Pixie was completely lame in her right foreleg and suffering from colic as a result. She was still trying to stand on it which must have been incredibly painful.
Elf has now recovered at Redwings
‘Elf was very thin — a body condition score of 1 — while poor Sprite had bald patches and was severely emaciated, with a body condition score of just 0.5.”
All 3 horses were taken to Redwings headquarters near Norwich and have since made a full recovery.
Redwings senior field officer Julie Harding said both defendants showed “a complete disregard for even the most basic equine care.”
Sprite is also continuing to make a recovery at Redwings
The pair were handed an 8-week suspended prison sentence, 80 hours community service and ordered to pay £180 costs.
They had each been previously found guilty on 13 February of 13 different offences under the Animal Welfare Act, all relating to neglect of horse welfare and a breech of a ban on keeping animals.
