Josh Gifford, the trainer of 1981 Grand National winner Aldaniti and father of event rider Tina Cook, is still being treated in intensive care after developing septicaemia.
The former four-times champion jockey, who is now 70, has been in hospital since Saturday 8 October. He was taken to hospital after complaining of feeling ill on the Friday.
“He’s still critical, but he’s making progress,” Tina told H&H today (Monday 17 October).
“He’s making a bit of progress every day and is now off the respirator and breathing on his own. It’s still a huge worry and is going to be a long process but he’s still fighting.”
His most memorable win as a trainer was Aldaniti – ridden by Bob Champion who was recovering from cancer, a story that was made into the film “Champions”
