Jockeys battle eventers in celebrity polo match

  • A team of jockeys will do battle against four top three-day event riders in a charity polo match to raise funds for the Animal Health Trust (AHT) at the Beaufort Polo Club on 6 July.

John Francome will lead the jockeys’ team against the eventers who include Olympic silver medallist Leslie Law, Andrew Nicholson, Rodney Powell and Clayton Fredericks. The teams will be competing for the Animal Health Trust Challenge Cup.

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, president of the veterinary charity, will be at the Beaufort Polo club to watch the action. The charity event will follow a full league match for the Cirencester 12-goal Championships.

AHT’s events organiser Allie Hogsbjerg said: “The day promises to be great fun and offers the audience a rare chance to see some of our top riders in a totally different sport. The support of our President The Princess Royal will make this a truly memorable day for those attending.”

Tickets are still available for the event with a Luncheon Package to include a three course meal, Champagne reception and the full benefits of day membership at £50. Day membership only costs £20 and includes parking, grandstand seat, afternoon tea and reception, while entry for one car including occupants costs £10.

Tickets are available from Allie Hogsbjerg at the AHT (tel: 01638 751000)
