  • Jason Maguire has been brought out of an induced coma after undergoing surgery to remove part of his liver following a heavy fall at Stratford on Monday (10 March).

The 2011 Grand National-winning jockey, 33, was kicked in the stomach by another horse after being unseated from Scots Gaelic in a 2-mile handicap hurdle. He was airlifted to University Hospital Coventry.

He suffered internal bleeding and a fractured sternum, forcing him to miss this week’s Cheltenham Festival.

Jane Broad, the wife of his agent, Chris, told journalists that the operation on his liver was a success, and that Jason was brought round from his induced coma throughout the course of Tuesday (11 March).

He has been surrounded by his wife, Lauren, and close friends, and is said to be “very aware of who is around him”.
