Horse & Hound staff do battle in Badminton Horse Trials quiz

  • H&H staff will take on three other teams in an Eventing Mastermind quiz at The Outside Chance bar at 7pm on Saturday, 5 May at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.

Taking on the H&H staff will be Team GBR – featuring Badminton 2012 competitors Laura Collett and Lauren Shannon (pictured at Badminton last year), plus 2011 competitor Ben Hobday and David Hamer, head of Excel at the British Equestrian Federation.

There will also be an Equestrian Journalists team – led by Ellie Hughes, who freelances regularly for H&H – and a team from Radio Badminton.

The questions will be set by Paul Graham, who now works for British Dressage and was previously British Eventing sport manager, and who last year took on H&H eventing editor Pippa Roome in a head to head quiz, the forerunner of this year’s event.

Equestrian commentator John Kyle, who is one of the public address commentators on cross-country day at Greenwich for the London Olympics, will be the question master.

While watching the contest, visitors to The Outside Chance – which overlooks The Lake – can buy tickets for a raffle, with all the money raised going to Badminton’s official 2012 cause, Team GBR.

The Outside Chance is now in its third year at Badminton. Other events to look forward to at the bar during the event include:

    • Four-time Badminton winner Mark Todd will be popping in to sign copies of his new book Second Chance.
    • Big screen opposite the bar for the first time.
    • Open til 11pm and on Sunday evening a DJ from London club Public will be playing.
    • The bar has teamed up with London restaurant Rock and will be offering a full all-day menu with breakfast from 8.30am and supper served until late. Special brunch menu on Monday between the horse inspection and jumping.
    • The Outside Chance will be screening live sport, including the 1000 and 2000 Guineas and FA Cup with bookmakers Corals on hand.
    • The Outside Chance has again teamed up with The Jockey Club and every day there will competitions and daily prize draws to win hospitality at their big meetings at racecourses such as Cheltenham, Aintree and Epsom.
