Height checks for 2003 champions

  • The Joint Measurement Board (JMB) will continue to monitor the accuracy of measurement certificates by ordering the re-measurement of selected horses and ponies, despite protest about the scheme, which was introduced last year.

Stewards will re-measure winners of championships that require a JMB height certificate at this year’s Horse of the Year Show, as well as at the NPS/Baileys Championships.

JMB secretary Howard Robinson explained: “The re-measurements will be carried out in late 2003 and early 2004, and owners will be given at least six weeks’ notice.”

Re-measurements of the HOYS 2002 champions led to controversy when several were over height.

Robinson added: “It is vital owners understand the potential repercussions of a change in their animal’s certified height after a re-measurement and prepare their animals adequately.”

Copies of the JMB Rule Book and the results of recent re-measurements can be found on the JMB website at www.thejmbonline.co.uk
